#10 – Weapons Forbidden!

He set the package down on the kitchen counter. Drawing a small paring knife from the cabinet, he neatly slit the tape with surgical precision. Inside lay an invitation card—simple, elegant, printed on thick, creamy stock. The lettering was done in glossy black ink, a classic serif font that exuded old-world formality:

You are cordially invited to the Annual Gala of the Ichor Hotel.
Date: Saturday, November 15th, 8:00 PM
Venue: The Ichor Hotel, New York
Dress Code: Evening Formal
Weaponry: Strictly Forbidden
With respects, The Phoenix Society

He stared at the card for a long, lingering moment. The Ichor Hotel. Though he had never set foot within its walls, he had heard the stories—whispered in shadowy corners and exchanged over clinking glasses in underground bars. A sanctuary and academy for killers, a place where blood feuds were suspended at the door, where mortal enemies sat side by side and shared single-malt scotch. A paradise for legendary assassins. This was no place for ordinary souls; this was no place one simply wandered into by accident.

The meaning was clear—and chilling. Someone knew who he was. And that realization settled in his gut like a stone. Someone, despite the layers of fake usernames, encrypted Bitcoin trails, and fabricated identities, had followed the silken threads all the way back to the Golden Ghost. And yet, instead of exposing him to the world or putting a bullet in his skull, they were inviting him—beckoning him to step into the very light he had spent a lifetime evading.

He muttered under his breath, a ghost of a whisper: “Weapons forbidden…”

Inside his skull, a cacophony of instincts roared to life—years of grueling training, relentless caution, and the primal will to survive all screamed in unison: It’s a trap. Don’t go. Burn it all, erase every trace, and vanish into thin air. But somewhere deeper, in a chamber of his heart he thought had long turned to ash, another voice stirred—quiet, curious, and stubbornly alive. He wanted to know. He needed to know who possessed the sheer audacity to drag a specter out of the realm of shadows and invite him to waltz beneath the blazing chandeliers.
